Spaces Between: A new community initiative at Carillon City

Fiveight has today announced the launch of Spaces Between, a new placemaking initiative at Carillon City designed to invite the people of Perth to connect, experience and discover the CBD.

Spaces Between will feature a program of curated one-of-a-kind experiences that complement Perth CBD’s existing retail hubs through commerce, culture and community-led events, enticing visitors to explore the Carillon City space while the asset undergoes planning for redevelopment.

Fiveight CEO, Paige Walker said the Spaces Between initiative rethinks the traditional approach to redevelopment by keeping the CBD asset open for civic and community use.

“The Spaces Between initiative allows us to make best use of the space between Carillon City’s development planning stages, demonstrating Fiveight’s revitalist approach by breathing new life into an otherwise unused asset. The initiative will help us explore the flavour for the future of the Carillon City space, demonstrating its potential to provide not only retail space, but also add cultural, civic and circular value to Perth’s CBD,” Ms Walker said.

As part of the initiative, Fiveight has invested in a fresh look and feel for Carillon City’s wayfinding that aims to encourage visitors to connect and discover each of its adjoining precincts — St George’s Terrace, Forrest Chase, Hay St and Murray St malls.

Ms Walker said supporting the existing retail and commercial hubs in Perth’s CBD is an important objective of the initiative, which plays a short-term part in the company’s long-term vision to revitalise the Carillon City space.

“At the heart of Fiveight’s philosophy is to create meaningful places where people can connect. Spaces Between provides an interim opportunity to connect Perth CBD’s flagship shopping malls and commercial district through a series of people-led community experiences.

Carillon City adds to Fiveight’s growing portfolio of CBD assets including the recently revitalised OneNinety building on St Georges Terrace.

Partner organisations, including Activate Perth, are already working with Fiveight to develop a program as part of the Spaces Between initiative.
